Tattoo Aftercare:
Suggested Aftercare for tattoos
- Remove bandage from your tattoo in a clean environment upon retiring home (approx 2-3 hrs).
- Wash tattoo gently and throughly with warm water and a gentle soap. Use a circular motion to remove all ointment, blood, or lymphatic fluid from the surface of your new artwork. Avoid any soap with moisture beads or scrubs, loofahs, wash cloths etc… Be sure to rinse throughly, removing all traces of soap. Include a second cold water rinse to seal the pores.
- Dry gently with a clean paper towel. Avoid bath towel or hand towels since they WILL have bacteria that can introduce infection to your tattoo.
- Repeat this process for the first 2-3 days. Be sure to were non restrictive clothing or jewelry that may rub or irritate the area. It is also recommended that you maintain a clean environment for healing (this includes all bedding and clothing). And DON’T sleep with your pets!
- Once the tattoo begins to dry out (usually around day 3) you may begin to apply a white fragrance free hand lotion to the area several times a day. Be sure to apply lotion with clean hands! Application of lotion may cause acne like breakouts on the skin. This can be taken care of by reducing the number of lotion applications per day.
- After the initial 3 days, washing once a day in the shower should be sufficient.
- The tattoo will begin to form flaky scabs after several days. Allow these scabs to flake off naturally, and resist any urge to pick at your tattoo! Just keep it moisturized and they will fall off naturally on their own. The entire process usually takes about 2-4 weeks.
